Lyrics
Warrior
A long, long time ago, God said, I’m gonna make me a warrior
And so he did, with arms of iron, legs of stone, and heart of fire
Greatest warrior ever known and God was pleased
So He sent him out to kill some folks
Sinners mostly, and backsliders
God said, “Kill ‘em all, I don’t want to see a single person standing
And the warrior said, “Okay.”
So, for years and years the rivers ran red
As all across the land the warrior did as God commanded
And those he didn’t kill, well, they sang praises
To the mercy of the lord and God was pleased
But there came a day when that warrior was nowhere to be found
God was looking round and round, getting angrier by the minute
But He found him, on a breezy hill underneath a tree
Sedate, Serene, just as gentle as can be
And the wind began to blow, and there was fire in the sky
But the warrior didn’t move, didn’t even bat an eye
He was stoic, determined, as the wind rose up against him
And the fire burned his skin, and the stones began to beat him down
And then God, feeling totally justified, shook his loving head and said,
“I think you’ve had enough my son, now there’s some killing to be done,
So let’s go.”
But the warrior said no. Flat out said no, and he said,
“I will follow for a while and that’s okay,
But eventually, I’m gonna have to make my own way
‘Cause at the end of the day,
I’m gonna have to walk the path that I choose,
And then I deal with the choices, win or lose.”
So, of course, God smote him
And pretty soon, he forgot all about his grand creation, the greatest warrior
But y’know, folks didn’t forget; Kinda got them thinking
And God’s popularity started sinking; he found himself shrinking
Well, that’s how the story goes when the warrior said no
Well, that’s how the story goes, yeah that warrior said no
