Lyrics

Sudden Silence

Lovely lady all alone by her window
Sipping tea and sadly looking back
At all of last night’s angry words of condemnation
All the stinging words and accusations

But in the morning comes a clear and present moment
Maybe some things might have best been left unsaid
So many bitter words could best remain unspoken
Certain promises unbroken

But her aim was fine, so she hardly missed at all
She hit most every time till he was up against the wall
And it was sweet, like wine, until the sudden silence

Sudden silence, loud as thunder
Going over, flowing under
Sudden silence as the curtain starts to fall
And nothing moves at all; no one’s moving

And now she wonders if there might be room for conversation
Maybe an apology or two
Of course, she’s ready for the old recriminations
But so many of the things she’d said were true

And her aim was fine, so she hardly missed at all
She hit most every time; she kinda liked to see him crawl
And it was sweet, like wine, until the sudden silence

Sudden silence, loud as thunder
Going over, flowing under
Sudden silence as the curtain starts to fall
And nothing moves at all; no one’s moving

Sudden silence, sudden silence
Sudden silence, sudden silence
Sudden silence, sudden silence
Sudden silence, sudden silence
